How do We See?

The eyes are your windows to your soul. They connect the world to your brain and how you see the world.

First light goes through the cornea. The cornea is a dome-shaped clear ‘window’ to the eye at the front , it changes the direction of the light to make it go the right way.

Next is the Iris and the Pupil – the Pupil helps track how much light is going into the eye, the Iris controls(or moves) the pupil to make it do its job;the pupil goes small when there is bright light and vice-versa.

The lens is next, it changes shape depending in what you’re seeing- see far away the lens relax and to see things closely they contract. The vitreous humor is a clear-like jelly that makes up most of the middle of the eye.

Last but not least is the Retina, the Retina makes you see colours! It also helps you make a proper image. Cone and rod cells work together to make a image and colour it. Lastly, the images get passed down to the optic nerve and to the back of the brain.

Some eye problems are commonly short or long sightedness- some others are cataract disease, blindness and crossed eyes!
